Women, Infants and Children Programs (Programa de WIC)

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), commonly known as WIC, provides nutrition education and counseling, breastfeeding promotion and support, social and medical referrals, and some healthy foods to
low-income, at-risk pregnant women, postpartum and breastfeeding women and children under age five.

The WIC Program:
• offers a food package that now includes vegetables, fruits, whole-grain bread, whole grain tortillas, brown rice, soy beverages, and tofu, as well as the regular low-fat milk,
cheese, eggs, cereal, juice, beans, and peanut butter
• provides nutrition counseling by professional nutritionists and Registered Dietitians (RDs)
• provides breastfeeding information and support to women, as well as free breast pumps (including manual, portable, single-breast, and double-breast, and electric), where available, for moms who need them
• makes referrals to medical care for pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants, and children under age five.
