Federal Website on Health Care Reform for Consumers - English

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has developed a website through which individuals and small businesses can identify affordable health insurance coverage options. The website, www.HealthCare.gov, provides information on:

  • Health insurance coverage
  • Medicaid
  • CHIP
  • Medicare
  • Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plans
  • Small group coverage, including reinsurance for early retirees, tax credits, and other information.

Individuals can search for plans by state and to get specific information including a monthly premium estimate, how many individuals were charged more, how many individuals were denied, the scope of coverage, annual deductibles, and maximum out-of-pocket costs.

Individuals can also sort available plans by factors such as out-of-pocket costs, annual deductible, starting monthly premiums, doctor choice (indemnity or PPO), companies, and additional features (HSA eligible, and coverage for maternity care, mental health, Rx and substance abuse). And individuals can compare up to three plans side-by-side.

The specific cost and pricing information can help consumers looking for healthcare get more up-front information about potential plans/insurers and the potential limits of coverage.
